Summer Bucket List for You and Your Dog

After spending the past few months cooped up inside there is nothing you want to do more than get out and explore. It’s not just the humans in our lives that need this release, oftentimes our furry friends need it even more. Lucky for you both, you live in a city that is incredibly pet friendly and is full of beautiful places to see.

Get Out and Walk

With so many gorgeous spots to explore in Charleston, it can be hard to narrow down just a few. Depending on what you’re interested in you can take your furry companion with you to dine outside, walk through downtown Charleston, and even accompany you on a spooky ghost tour! Not to mention the numerous dog parks like Hazel Parker and Hampton Park Dog Run. Try to not only hit the same spots on your neighborhood walk, but to also commit to trying at least one new trail, park, or experience each month this summer.

There is a little something for everyone to enjoy, human or canine. Just like their human counterparts, it is important for your dog to behave accordingly on these outings. Being properly trained to walk on a leash without incident is so important when it comes to enjoying a public outing. Commands like Sit and Down can also help you be confident that your dog will greet others safely and calmly.

Perfect Time to Take A Swim

Being in Charleston means you are lucky enough to be within 20 minutes of several beaches. Whether it be Folly Beach or Morris Island, there is always an excuse for a swim. This summer, commit to bringing along your pup for a little beach time too.

It is important to know that some beaches only allow pets during non-peak times and may require a dog permit. Doing your homework before going on your adventure is always the best bet to ensure you and your dog know the rules.

Beach time means water time, and you should never take an inexperienced dog to the water. A dog needs to be able to handle any challenges they may face in the water, be it rip tides, strong waves, or even exhaustion. Having a water ready pup is a must when it comes to any water activities.

Having a properly trained dog can mean the difference between a great day and a terrible one. A trained dog is more friendly, personable, patient, and most importantly sociable. Having a dog that can properly play and engage with other dogs without incident makes every outing significantly better.

If you are thinking about getting a dog or are unsure of your present dog’s behavior, this is the perfect time to reach out for proper training. The friendly professionals at Dog Training Now Charleston are available to help ensure that your best friend is ready for the great outdoors.
